Learning the practice of prayer
Prayer remains one of Christianity's greatest challenges and privileges. This book offers friendly guidance for beginners in the school of prayer, exploring the who, what, when, where, how, why, and "so what" of communion with God. Drawing from the Psalms and Don DeWelt's timeless wisdom, discover that prayer is primarily fellowship with God—where heart matters more than routine. Each chapter provides brief, encouraging instruction without stuffy lectures. Whether you're a third-grader or seasoned believer in prayer, everyone remains a learner. Prayer is our holy occupation, our primary business. Don't surrender—keep praying and discover revival through intentional, faithful conversation with God.
Dr. J.K. Jones Jr. is a self-confessed passionately average guy. Raised on the prairies of Indiana and Illinois, he never thought he would preach or teach. Yet, by God’s grace he has served both the church and university classrooms these past fifty plus years. Much of his adult life has been devoted to exploring spiritual formation and discipleship. God has used his longing for something more than religion and rule-keeping to help him find a soul-satisfying relationship as he daily spends time with Jesus. Over the decades, he has sought to show others how to do the same. His life has been blessed by his wife, Sue, and his beloved family. Now in his senior years, he takes long walks, writes some, teaches some, mentors some, enjoys a good cup of coffee, delights in having meals with his family, and continues to press on and upward to know Jesus.
