Hi College Press readers!Β

I recently finished reading the book Freedom in Christ by Mike Baker. This book is a study through Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians. It focuses on the freedom that we are given through the gospel and not allowing rules imposed by others or yourself to stand in the way of living in that freedom given to us by Christ. My natural tendency is to lean into following rules and restrictions, so this book was an encouragement to slow down and focus on the message of Galatians, a message that Christ’s work on our behalf is what makes us free.Β

One thing that stood out to me while reading was in chapter 10, β€œFreedom to Serve.” This chapter talks about how service often feels like an obligation or requirement instead of something we’ve been freed to do. Also, Chapter 8 really challenged me, as it covers Galatians 4:8-18. It brought clarity to my own life by helping me see that I need to make a choice between ritual or relationship and obligation or joy.Β

I recommend this book! It would work well in a small group setting. But the book’s illustrations and teaching made it readable for any adult!
