Completing the Task

Through the efforts of experts in the area of missions comes an in-depth overview of the World Christian Movement. Their combined research will provide a valuable resource tool on world missions to college students, people who are interested in serving in a mission setting, missionaries, and missions leaders. The work is organized around four foundational themes about which every mission-minded Christian should be informed.

  • Biblical Themes: From beginning to end, God is a missionary God, and He expects His people to be partners with Him in carrying out His central purpose.
  • Historical Themes: Examines the historical development of the Christian movement. To understand the task we must keep a clear view on where we have come.
  • Strategic Themes: It is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to give some insight as to how the church might complete this achievable task.
  • Cultural Themes: Focuses on the relationship of culture with mission. How should the missionary view culture? How can the missionary communicate the gospel to those who view the world differently?

While the task remaining may threaten the fainthearted, the mission and the task is the Lord's! He works in and through the church. He empowers His witnesses. Only as God's people fully commit themselves to the task remaining under His guidance will His power be released. Completing the task is the driving motive behind this text. As with the apostle Paul, we seek to encourage every Christian witness to "become all things to all men so that by all means...[he/she] might save some" (1 Cor 9:19-23, esp. 22).
